The Parable of Kandu
Lessons in a Parable for Christian Homeschool, Sunday School, and VBS
                         A TEACHING PARABLE

The Parable of Kandu  is a special edition of the story of Kandu and the Magic
Meadow. It is a story of exploring life and color beyond ordinary routine and mundane
existence. It is a Christian parable, recognizable to those who have taken the journey to
faith in Jesus Christ. At the end of the story, the parable is explained scene by scene in the
book, with a letter to children inviting them to seek and find light and life in Jesus Christ.
Here is a synopsis, with related scriptures below:

Kandu enjoys his life in the dark rainforest with his friends and the games they play together. It is
home, and it is comfortable to him. But his imagination is captivated by the glimpses he gets of a
world beyond when the sunlight pierces the shadows. The light’s warmth and illumination compels
Kandu to seek the source of its beauty.

His curiosity leads him to explore beyond his immediate environment for something that might
answer his questions.  He follows the beckoning sunbeam with determination to a place where
colors glow and welcome him to participate in all the meadow has to offer. The meadow satisfies
his hunger and thirst, and adds new color and vitality to his appearance and experience.

Kandu’s questions are answered with many surprising adventures more wonderful than he
expected. His discovery is so invigorating he is eager to share it with his friends. When Kandu
returns home, his friends see his transformation and want to share his experience. So Kandu
shows them the way, and they too are uniquely and distinctly transformed in their individuality—not
mere copies of Kandu’s colors. They take great delight as they make many new discoveries and
changes during their continuing visits to the meadow.
